Support Our Mission

The Friends of John Coltrane, Inc., an all-volunteer, charitable, nonprofit organization, has celebrated the life and music of American composer and jazz saxophonist John Coltrane with eight successful music festivals.

Thanks to the work by volunteers, sponsors, and donors each year, the growth of the annual John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival has brought to High Point increased national recognition among the genre’s participants and audiences.

In staging this and other events, the Friends’ goal has been to broaden our program of providing instruments for students who seek a music education. To date, we have awarded over 100 instruments to aspiring students at a retail value of over $160,000.

It has been documented that the benefits that come with a concentration in music education positively affects study habits for young students. Dedication to music finds its way into areas of growth, learning, increased skills and achievement in other subjects. Over the years, many practicing musicians and artists attribute their music education at a young, impressionable age, as the basis for their success.

We also are aware that there are schools within our immediate community that have experienced budget cuts in the arts.  It is up to us and other like-minded organizations to contribute towards helping to provide the resources students will need for a successful future.

For this reason, we are raising funds to increase the number of instruments we can giveaway during our annual student essay contest.  We are also seeking donations to establish a fund for area band directors to utilize when their school budget will not allow them to purchase new instruments, band uniforms or necessary equipment

By making a donation, you show your commitment to the continued growth of the student instrument giveaway program, music education for young people and support for the arts within our community. Your contribution is tax deductible.

Make a tax deductible contribution below or send checks, payable to the Friends of John Coltrane, to P.O. Box 2392, High Point, NC 27261.  Thank you for your financial support.
