…Rolling Stone 2022 “Bassist of the Year” Nominee
Anthony Crawford is a dynamic bassist, songwriter, producer, and recording artist whose genre-defying musicianship has earned him recognition as one of today’s most versatile players. He is one of the dynamic musicians joining Lao Tizer for the band’s performance on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026 at the John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival.
A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Crawford grew up surrounded by music, influenced by his father, drummer Hubert “H-Bomb” Crawford, and uncle, legendary saxophonist Hank Crawford. Known for his ability to seamlessly blend jazz, funk, rock, R&B, and fusion, Crawford has performed and recorded with an impressive range of artists, including Justin Timberlake, Kirk Whalum, Howard Hewett, Allan Holdsworth, and progressive rock group CHON. His expressive playing, technical precision, and deep musicality have made him a sought-after collaborator on stages and in studios around the world.
In 2022, Crawford’s artistry received a major honor when Rolling Stone recognized him as “Bassist of the Year,” celebrating his innovative approach to the instrument and his contributions to contemporary music. Whether performing jazz fusion, soulful grooves, or high-energy improvisation, Anthony Crawford continues to push the boundaries of the bass while inspiring a new generation of musicians.
